UPDATE: This lake alert has been lifted. Please resume normal activities within this water body.
Possible elevated fecal coliform counts due to a sanitary sewer overflow.
Location: Carter Street, west of South Orange Blossom Trail.
Cause: Heavy grease deposits in gravity line.
Overflow Amount: Approximately 250 gallons.
City Response: City Water Reclamation personnel stopped the overflow and cleaned the impacted areas. The city has issued the alert as a precaution in the chance that the bacteria counts may be slightly elevated when it reaches the lake after going through a stormwater canal and alum treatment system.
City crews have posted warning signs at the Barker Park boat ramp and fishing pier. City Stormwater personnel will be taking bacteria samples at strategic locations along the canal system and at the lake to measure the potential impact of the spill. Once bacteria counts meet acceptable state water quality standards, updates will be sent via email and to the city’s lake alert website and lake alert hotline phone number.
As a health precaution, the city is advising that all water contact activities cease until further notice.
