Government Academy

Commissioner Tony Ortiz launched Government Academy in 2014 to empower the constituents of the City of Orlando. His biggest goal as a public servant is to share knowledge with his community to better their quality of life because he believes that education is paramount and government starts with the people. In his own words, “true government power is nested within the hands of the people and teaching them the importance of government knowledge puts them on a path of how to best make their government work for them.”

Government Academy is a 12-week program where students learn about ALL forms of Government including Federal, State, County, and Municipal; meeting various instructors who are professionals in many types of government-related occupations and forming lasting relationships with others who are interested in gaining more knowledge about government. At the end of the course, students attend a graduation dinner, receiving a certificate of completion.

Every year there are two sessions hosted, English in the spring and Spanish in the fall, taking place at the Orlando Police Training Facility (100 George Desalvia Way, Orlando, FL 32807) on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Register today for a chance to get to know those who serve you, learn more about government, and become acquainted with others with the same goal in mind!
