Learn to Swim

Do you or your child want to learn to swim?

Every summer, the City of Orlando offers swim lessons taught by Red Cross certified instructors. Courses are available for the following age groups:

Water Babies

Swimming instructions for ages 6-months to 3-years-old. The program gives parents information and techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner. Parent/Adult accompaniment in the water is required for infant and toddler levels.

Preschool

Swimming instructions for ages 3 to 5-years-old. 

Youth

Swimming instructions for ages 6 to 17-years-old. There are six levels of Learn to Swim classes for this age group.

Adult

Swimming instructions for adults 18-years and older.

How Much Does It Cost?

Each course costs $40 for city residents, $50 for non-residents.

Step 2.Select your swimming lessons

Swimming lessons are listed as individual activities. Click on an activity to see details about price, location and when it's offered.

Swimming lessons are only offered in the summer for Water Babies. Lessons for all other ages (preschool, youth and adults) are offered in both spring and summer.

Step 3.Download, print and complete the activity's registration packet

Click on the swimming activity you'll be registering for. The registration packet will be in the sidebar in the section titled, "Extra Details".

Step 4.Checkout and pay online

Add the swimming activity to your shopping cart and checkout. During checkout, you will also be asked to agree to a waiver.

Step 5.Bring your completed registration packet in-person on the day of your first lesson

Please arrive 20 minutes before your first lesson to allow time for your packet to be processed.

Policies and General Information

  1. Summer program schedules permit only one make-up class after a minimum of two rain-outs.
  2. Proper swim attire is required. Infant and pre-school children must wear a tight-fitting swimsuit or a swim diaper (not a regular disposable diaper) to enter the pool. Swim caps are optional. Towels, goggles and one piece bathing suit is required.
  3. Absence from classes may inhibit a child’s ability to advance to the next course level.
  4. Please be on time. Tardiness affects everyone!
  5. REMEMBER: Children’s ability to learn skills differ from each other. Be patient and encourage your child as much as possible. Also remember to practice and keep skills sharp.
