Do you need assistance to purchase a home?

Federally funded grants are available to low-income households though city-certified lenders for homes purchased within city limits.


Check the requirements for this program

You must have:

  • Credit score of 640+.
  • Housing expense ratio of 38% or less.
  • Debt-to-income ratio of 45% or less.

The home you want to buy must:

  • Be within City of Orlando limits.
  • Be a new or existing single-family home.
  • Not currently be occupied.
  • Meet standards for health and safety; the city will perform an inspection before you close on the home.
  • Not have a sales price more than $255,176.

  • Have not owned a home in the past 3 years.
  • Meet an income level based on the number of people in your household.

Complete a homebuyer educational seminar

Contact a HUD-certified housing counseling agency and enroll in the seminar. At the end of the seminar, you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate is good for one year.

As part of this program, you must use a city-certified lender to apply for your mortgage loan.

Find a home to buy

Consult with a real estate agent or view property listings to find a house.

You can use our locator tool to see if the home you’d like to buy is within Orlando City limits.

Complete the down payment assistance application with your lender

Your city-certified lender will send us your down payment assistance application. The city will review your application and if approved, we will schedule an appointment with you to finish your paperwork. The city will also inspect the house to ensure it meets safety standards. 

Close on your home

If you are approved, we will provide the title company with funds prior to closing.
