Lift Station 2 Force Main Improvements Project Parts A, B, and C

This is a multi-phase project involving the replacement of the original cast iron force mains serving Lift Stations 1, 2 and 3 with new PVC mains. Phase I involves constructing force main, water main and electric duct bank improvements from Legion Place and Garland Avenue east to Garden Plaza. Roads included are North Orange Avenue, Weber Street, Magnolia Avenue, the Urban Trail, Highland Avenue, Lake Highland Drive, North Thornton Avenue, Canton Street, North Hampton Avenue and Garden Plaza.

Lift Station 2 serves portions of northwest Orlando and the downtown area. New PVC main will be constructed to replace the existing 70-year-old cast iron main and provide system resilience and redundancy. The project also includes gravity sanitary sewer repairs and replacement, OUC water main upgrades, and a new OUC high-voltage duct bank for a portion of the route.

Phase I includes Parts A, B, and C. Part C will be the first part of Phase I of the project to be constructed, followed by Part A and concluding with Part B.

We anticipate this project will take 3 years to complete.

Project Necessity

Lift Station 2 and the related force main were constructed in the late 1940’s. Although the force main has not experienced significant problems, it is approaching the end of the anticipated service life. The LS 2 force main project will construct a new PVC main to replace the existing 70 year old cast iron main and provide system resilience and redundancy.

Project Impact

The project will result in temporary traffic disruption along the route as the entire road will be closed one block at a time for construction. The road will be demolished curb-to-curb for the construction of the utilities.

During construction, there might be an occasion when certain residents will not be able to use their driveways. Before blocking any driveways, the contractor will provide residents with advance notice and recommend alternative parking spots on the street.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Solid waste, recycling, mail, and other services will continue as scheduled. Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access.

Unforeseen circumstances and adverse weather can create delays that increase the project's duration and create opportunities for weekend and overnight work.
