Brick Street Rehabilitation Project - Harwood Street

Last updated on March 22, 2024

Two city employees wearing reflective safety vest work near a small white excavator removing soil.

This initiative is a component of the city's Bricks Streets Restoration program. The comprehensive reconstruction of the brick street encompasses the installation of a new roadway base on Harwood Street, between North Hyer Avenue and Highland Avenue. Curb ramps will be upgraded to meet current ADA standards, ensuring accessibility. The project also involves the replacement of the 8-inch sanitary sewer lines, including manholes and laterals. Additionally, there will be an upgrade to the 6-inch OUC water main, installation of new water services, and fire hydrants.

The project is anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2024 and we expect it to take 12 months.

During the project, Orlando Utilities Commission - OUC hired a competitive bid contractor to replace several previously identified water mains and potable water systems.

There is a possibility OUC may need to interrupt potable water services for pressure and chlorination test intermittently. Should this occur, the contractor will notify and coordinate with impacted residents. Should a resident experience longer than anticipated outages, property owners may contact OUC at 407.423.9018.

Project hours are 7 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Should the contractor experience unforeseen conditions or adverse weather, there may be potential delays that may prolong the project.

Residents will want to prepare for potential traffic delays, temporary road closures for through-traffic, pedestrian detours, sidewalk closures, and bike lane closures. There may be times when a property owner's driveway or entrance is temporarily inaccessible as the project progresses. Should this occur, the contractor will coordinate with the property owner when necessary to help maintain access.

Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have access to the immediate and surrounding area.

The contractor will coordinate with the city's Solid Waste Division to maintain the solid waste, recycling, and yard waste collection schedule. In the unlikely event a missed collection does occur, please dial 407.246.2314, and the city's Solid Waste Division will make second attempt for collection later in day, or the next day.
